A New Season
Spring 2011 is here. We have had a very mixed winter with not too much rain but some days as cold as I can remember .This culminated in a slightly later flowering.
Now in early October it is apparent that the stonefruit has set reasonably well. The weather has been good for the flowering period and warm enough for pollination.
We look forward to a good growing season with dry conditions to suit stonefruit production.
January 2012.
I have left the above to contrast with the reality of where we are at the start of a new year.
The season has been bizzare and fruit has been running two weeks late.So many grey dull days and with three days of rain last week it was just about the last straw.
Apricots are not in the best condition and are still slow ripening.Early peaches have been rain marked and nectarines have split.
I am hoping now the rain has cleared we can make some headway and pick some decent fruit.I will update when fruit is in a better condition and trust that the later varieties are OK.
